What year groups can take part?
– Keyboard lessons are available from Year 2
– Guitar, Drums, Woodwind and Violin lessons are available from Year 3
When do lessons take place?
All lessons take place during the school day.
Does my child need previous musical experience?
No — complete beginners are very welcome.
Who teaches the lessons?
All lessons are taught by experienced music teachers who are also active professional musicians. Teacher profiles can be viewed on the website.

What happens if a teacher is absent?
Parents and schools will be notified by email. WAMM will liaise with the school to arrange a catch-up lesson, and parents will be informed of the new arrangements by the WAMM admin team.

What is the recommended size of guitar for my child?

Can you teach electric guitar?
Yes, electric guitar can be taught provided the school already has a PAT-tested amplifier set up and available in the teaching room.
Can instruments be hired?
At present, only guitars are available for hire. Please CLICK HERE to contact the admin team for availability and further details.
How will I know how my child is progressing?
Parents receive written progress reports twice per year: – After Terms 1 & 3
Do you offer graded music exams?
Yes, grades can be taught; however, this is best suited to 1:1 lessons.
Are there performance opportunities?
We aim to provide as many performance opportunities as possible. We guarantee one end-of-year concert and work closely with school music coordinators to support Christmas and Spring concerts, helping prepare pupils for these events.
How much practice is expected?
We recommend little and often, ideally 15 minutes per day.
Are music books included?
Yes. All music books are included in the cost of lessons.
Is there online support for practice?
Yes. Pupils and parents have access to an online portal with play-through videos for every song in the book. Access is included in the lesson price. If you have not signed up, please contact the admin team.
What happens if my child misses a lesson?
If a lesson is missed due to illness or a school trip, unfortunately the lesson cannot be made up.
When are lessons rescheduled?
Lessons will be rescheduled if a teacher is absent or if a lesson falls on an INSET day or bank holiday.
Can Pupil Premium funding be used?
If your child is Pupil Premium funded, please contact the school first before booking lessons with WAMM.
